Ladies Match Reports

11th Oct Harps v Celtic:
A beautiful sunny day to announce the beginning of another Gaelic season in Auckland, NZ. Harps Ladies fronted up as always wearing the Sky Blue colours made famous by the " Dirty Dubs". If this ladies team could show commitment to the ball and face down their enemies like the Dub's did against many a foe on the pitch, being famous for they never say die attitude, maybe we could win a couple of battles ourselves.(on the pitch and not only in the bar). Quite a few new players for Harps and Gaelic football with new players itching to have a go and show off their poweress with a Gaelic ball. We were facing the green and white of Celtic and we knew from the past this wasn't going to be easy, the final score was a reflection on the game, there were all over us and converted chances that we were putting wide. Some great individual performances on the day, we just need to get to know each others names, train harder and maybe, ya just never know we may be able to take points off Celtic this season.

Harps Player of the Day: Player of the Day went to Miria Allman, for her Dessie Doyle like approach to defence.

Thursday 22nd Oct Harps v Gaels:
3rd game of the season and we faced friend and foe in the Gaels Ladies. Kick off was set for 6.30pm, which is always a challenge as people have to get from work all around the city. Everyone arrived on time and ready to go. Andy(Horsebox)was reffing, he started the game on time in a very regimental tone, he meant business and so did the Harps ladies. Some were worried about the game being played on the big pitch as I was myself, but much to everyone's amazement, it seemed to suit our play better, playing the ball into space and running onto it worked for us. Our midfield started very strong, working really well with the centre half back and forward line. Our forwards got out in front and the back line worked hard and came onto the ball very strong. Half time came round and we were up but knew that Gaels would come at us in the second half, this team don't give up easy and they have a fighting spirit a bit like the Galway Team who's colours they sport on the pitch. At one stage with around 10 mins left to go, The side line was a wee bit worried as Gaels had, as promised, fired up and where running at our defence. The Gaels midfield had put 2 balls into the square which somehow made there way into the back of the net, not to take anything away from the 2 goals scored but in my opinion they should never have been, something maybe to work at in training. When the final whistle went, Horsebox was bombarded by eager footballers wanting to know if the final score, Horsebox put the brain into gear and some quick maths done came up with the final score...........A DRAW......... I think this was a fair result and I was happy enough to take points off what I see as a very strong team. It was a great game to watch and was played in great spirit by both teams.

1st Nov Harps v Celtic:
The sun was trying to break through the clouds today as everyone turned up to play Celtic. I suppose you could say over the years that we have been a bit unlucky in our games against Celtic, always missing one superstar or another, you know what it's like. However, as the saying goes" 1 swallow doesn't make a summer ", and I firmly believe 1 player doesn't make a team. As a team on Sunday last we were fantastic, from the goal all the way to the front line, with player of the day Frances Flavin brewing up a storm in a full forward position. Everyone committed themselves 100% in the battle for the ball. It's the kinda game when it goes your way, you deserve a beer after. Makes for a strong League and what promises to be some great games to come. Looking forward to it.

Harps Player of the Day: Ms Frances Flavin.

Sunday 8th Nov Harps v Paddies:
Unfortunately arrived late to the game but Harps girls were going well with already a couple of goals and several points to their name. Strong midfield with a very composed and confident looking Orla Costin creating good play and opportunities. Fantastic goals and points from Laura (Larry), Frances, Suzie, Didi … 2nd half proved to be a bit harder with having to play against strong wind and probably a more fired up Paddy’s site who were desperately chasing their 1st win/draw for the season and just didn’t give up. Great effort from Daphne stopping a penalty kick. Final score ( I think) 5 goals 9 points to 1 goal 2 points.

Harps Players of the Day: Didi & Elaine.

Men's Match Reports

11th Oct  Harps v Marist:
A great start to our season with a narrow 1 point win against a good marist team, we played very well moving the around with great confidence and precision. Great spirit.

Harps Man of the match: Pat O'Sullivan and Sean Quinlivan.

29th Oct Harps v Celtic:
Unfortunately we couldn't find the same momentum we had the week previous and went down by 5 points, everyone tried very hard and put a great effort into the game but beaten by a better team.

Harps Man of the match: Rohann Da Silva.

1st Nov Harps v Gaels:
A good game of football played very well by both teams, not a very high score line as both teams failed to capitalise on their chances, good spirit shown by Harps.

Harps Man of the match: Doire Reid.

5th Nov Harps v St Pats:
Unfortunately St Pats had to default but we still played a highly competitive game, after being 3 points down at half time we fought back to win by 1.

Harps Man of the match: Pat O'Sullivan

8th Nov Harps v Marist:
Certainly not our best game, never scored in the first half but did improve in the second, don't know final score, were well beaten, lots to improve on.
